A 92 year old, well poised and proud man who is up and fully dressed by eight every morning, with his hair fashionable coifed and shaved perfectly, even though legally blind, arrived at the nursing home today. His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.
As he manoeuvred his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room.
“I love it,” he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight year old having just been presented with a puppy.
“Mr Jones, you have not even seen the room yet, just wait.”
“That does not have anything to do with it,” he replied.
“Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not does not depend on how the furniture is arranged… it’s how I have arranged my mind. I have already decided to love it. It’s a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with various parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do! Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I’ll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I’ve stored away. Just for this time in my life.
Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you have put in.
So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories! Thank you for your part in filling my memory bank. I am still depositing.”
Remember the five rules to be happy;
- Free you heart from hatred.(see Luke 6:45, 1 Tim 1: 5)
- Free your mind from worries.(Matthew 6:25-34)
- Live simply.(Ephesians 4:2)
- Give more.(2 Corthinians 9:11, 1 Timothy 6:18)
- Expect less.(Romans 6:19, 15:1, 1 Thess 5:14)
This is a story I received by e-mail, I do not know if it is true, but the principles taught in the story are true.
Once again, we do not intend to ‘run’ your life for you. The choices are yours to make, but you need to know all of the facts to make a good decision. Do not just accept what has been written, read the scriptures for yourselves and see what God has said.
