People do not like to be seen as being ignorant. We like to think we ‘know it all’, that we are intelligent, and that we have some standing. We find it mildly embarrassing to be thought of as ignorant, we do not like to say the words,
‘I DO NOT UNDERSTAND’.
So what is it that ‘I do not understand? Let’s look at this for a while.
One thing that always is beyond my understanding is;
‘How can God have so much patience with me, how can he keep on forgiving me after I keep on making the same mistake time after time?’
1 John 1:8-9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
This is what the Scripture says, this is what I believe. Does it matter that I do not understand? No, it does not matter, what matters is that it is true. Fantastic!
‘I don’t understand how Christ could die for me, how God could send His Son to die – for ME!’
1 John 4:10-11
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
The Scripture tells us why - because God loves us, just as He also loves His Son, but telling me why He does it does not mean I understand. I understand the words, the thought, the purpose; I do not understand how he can overcome His own pain to do this, for me, a nobody.
There are many more things still unanswered in my mind, like eternity, Gods power, knowledge, grace, kindness and then perhaps the biggest question of all, I don’t understand ME. On top of this there are many other things I still do not understand, but as I said earlier, I do NOT NEED to understand, I just need to believe and accept.
This belief and acceptance will bring about obedience and a pleasing life to God which will make Gods plan fruitful.
I hope you will not let your lack of understanding prevent you from being obedient.
Once again, we do not intend to ‘run’ your life for you. The choices are yours to make, but you need to know all of the facts to make a good decision. Do not just accept what has been written, read the scriptures for yourselves and see what God has said.
