1 Cor 15:33-34
Do not be misled: "Bad company corrupts good character."
NIV
This is a verse of Scripture that most of us are very familiar with. Some of us have heard this since we were young children, so much so that we do not really appreciate the importance of it!
Did you notice what the verse said? It says that mixing with people of ‘bad’ or ‘evil’ character, WILL corrupt you! It is NOT a ‘maybe’ or a ‘perhaps’ but a definite ‘will’ corrupt! You can NOT flirt with the Devil and expect to come out of it unscathed. Play with a dirty dog and you WILL get dirty.
How much thought do we give to the moral integrity of the people that we associate with? We think immediately about our friends, and that is right, they are a huge influence on us, BUT, they are not the only ones who can corrupt us.
What about where you work? Are they people of good moral standing? Do they lie, cheat, mislead those they should be serving? If they do it is only a matter of time before you start to do the same.
It is also vital we consider this with our marriage partner, even more so, because this person will also have a huge influence on your children as well!
Many people these days have lost their moral compass, they do not know what is right or wrong anymore. Some people may have NEVER known, but for the majority, we do know what is right.
Do we do it?
Do the people we mix with whether it be at work, in our social lives or even in the family, help or hurt us?
Once again, we do not intend to ‘run’ your life for you. The choices are yours to make, but you need to know all of the facts to make a good decision. Do not just accept what has been written, read the scriptures for yourselves and see what God has said.
